Prologue
And in year 1, or 18,473 BC in modern calendars, it was speculated, as records didn’t precisely show, that the land of Atala came to be inhabited. Humans, elves, and dwarves inhabited the island along with various mystical creatures. The North was a region with many mountains. The Center and South of the island was layered with farmlands, forests and valleys that were abundant with life. Unbeknownst to the inhabitants another group of beings watched over them. From the city of Hygard they laid their eyes on the land. And from this legendary city it is believed that the gods came to be.
Coruvash was said to be radiant as the sun, like a graceful phoenix engulfed in white flames. Even though his appearance was majestic he was known as Coruvash the War Bringer. Whenever he was seen there was much conflict and great bloodshed. And the longer he stayed the more radiant his body became. Nerivion the Peace Bringer was his antithesis. This black giant would appear bringing dark clouds with him. The longer he stayed the darker the clouds became. His arrival would end conflicts and he would gift the world with peace.
And history told of the first War of the Gods in a time that went to be known as the Stygian Era. Even now, it is not known what caused it but Coruvash and Nerivion went into battle. The battle devastated the land. The bloodshed that incurred continued for years as the dark lord Nerivion came out victorious. He no longer brought peace, but, instead, pain and destruction. Having lost control of Nerivion, the beings of Hygard created 5 more gods: Antegar the earth creature; Raijagar the lightning creature; Sylphagar the wind creature; Svaragar the fire creature; Velegar the sea creature. Apart they were much weaker than the first gods. But together they had the power to stop Nerivion. The 5 gods were not able to overcome Nerivion’s powers. However, they found another way to end the war. They imprisoned Nerivion in the depths of the underworld, The Abyss. He swore that one day he would return and take his revenge.
Nearly 2,500 years after the War of the Gods, Atala is once more haunted by the memories of the past, the devastation the gods caused. For some of the people of Atala have come to posses powers never before seen controlled by anyone. Humans, elves, dwarves, all have been touched by this power: the power to control the elements, a gift for some, and a curse for others. Thanos discovered this power and shared it with Atala. But many lands forbade it. They feared the power and wanted it to disappear. However, Thanos could not let it go. He secluded his own kingdom, the Paragon Imperium, and continued his experiments. Those that some called the children of the gods were called Elementi.
